As Sean Connery would say on Celebrity Jeoperdy…the day has come. SPATO’s 3rd Annual Spartan 5k on Sunday, April 29, 2012 is brought to you this year with the theme of Run, Walk, and Roll. This means that the Spartan 5k will bring together participants of all levels of activity (Track and Field stars to Weekend Warriors to those looking for a nice walk out) no matter their ability. If you are looking to get a new PR (personal record), running with friends, or enjoying the beautiful campus of SJSU, this race is for you!
Who benefits?:
As always, the Spartan 5k is also way to help those in our community further themselves. The following organizations will be benefiting from this years race:
- The Spartan Athletic Training Organization (SPATO) will receive funds to help send Athletic Training students to regional and national conferences. Not only furthering their professional lives but also helping represent the California State University system, the San Jose State University Kinesiology department and Athletic Training program, and the Bay Area.
- The Far West Wheelchair Athletic Assosciation (FWWAA) will receive funds to continue their mission to bring opportunities to participate in daily physical activity to those with disabilities.
- Re-Play San Jose (ran by San Jose State students, alumni, and faculty) aims to use recycling of old equipment to give opportunities to participate in physical activity to those who have little to no opportunity themselves. Donations of used athletic shoes in good condition will be accepted on race day at the Check-In/Registration desks. As an extra incentive, those who donate will be entered for a chance to win Sports Basement gift cards!
